Along with being able to integrate quotes and interpret them into your writing, being able to cite those sources is also a very important part of writing. If you use any person’s ideas or writing in your writing, then it must be cited, if not then this is plagiarism. This is wrong because it is literally taking credit for work that is not rightfully yours. Plagiarism is so serious that it has multiple consequences that will happen if you are caught plagiarizing, such as getting a zero or being kicked out of school. This is why schools try to teach their students how to cite and use MLA format early on in their school careers. Each different citing technique has a different format, which depends on what type of paper you are writing. English papers usually use MLA format. Along with making sure that each person receives credit for their work, the writer should also make sure that the format is written out correctly. This format is written out the way it is to make it easy to read, and to make sure that every sources page is clear and consistent. I had a cited sources page and used MLA format for every paper that I wrote during english 110. I chose the cited sources page from my essay Is Art the New Cure: How Art Therapy is Being Used as a Way to Treat Depression as an example. I chose this sources page in particular because it cited outside of online articles. Most of the sources that I used in my papers were online articles, so I became good at knowing how this cite these. Like how MLA is its own format, each type of medium has its own form of being cited under MLA. I got to try this in this essay in particular because I used different types of mediums in this essay. I had videos that linked to further information about depression and art therapy, and pictures of different kinds of art therapy. For each of these different types of work I had to cite them differently.
