TREAC Paragraph

Art can be used as a way to expand our knowledge of different scientific processes and see them through different perspectives. While the scientific process is good in some areas, it is also flawed in other aspects. In her article, The Future of Science… is Art?,  Jonah Lehrer explains how science would not be what it is today without art and that art needs to be introduced as a constant in science. “In doing science, even though words and equations are used with the intention of having precise meaning, it is almost impossible not to reason by physical analogy, not to form mental pictures,”(Lehrer). When connecting art and science, art does not necessarily mean a painting or a drawing. Art can also be dance, music, or literature, specifically in this case metaphor. Many scientific theories that have been discovered are first discovered and explained through metaphor. This is especially true for concepts that are impossible to see. We form an image in our heads based on the metaphor used to describe the concept and having this image makes understanding it much easier. By finding different ways to incorporate science and art together, it will be much easier for new scientific theories to be created.

While the scientific process is good in some areas, it is also flawed in other aspects. In her article, The Future of Science… is Art?,  Jonah Lehrer explains how science would not be what it is today without art and that art needs to be introduced as a constant in science. Lehrer says, “in doing science, even though words and equations are used with the intention of having precise meaning, it is almost impossible not to reason by physical analogy, not to form mental pictures,”(Lehrer). Along with this, there are certain skills that help increase deeper thinking that are essential when trying to discover new scientific ideas. Yo-Yo Ma is a musician who in his article Necessary Edges, writes about the importance of art when discussing science. He says, “for me the most proficient way to teach the values of collaboration, flexibility, imagination, and innovation — all skill sets needed in today’s world — is through the performing arts,”(Ma). When connecting art and science, art does not necessarily mean a painting or a drawing. Art can also be dance, music, or literature. Art such as metaphors can be used to develop different scientific concepts, while theater can teach someone to think creatively. Though it may not seem like it, art is a way to develop deeper thinking and it allows scientists to be more willing to suggest outside the box ideas. Using art to develop in science can be beneficial especially when the scientific concept is impossible to see. By finding different ways to incorporate science and art together, it will be much easier for new scientific theories to be created.

Your TREAC looks fantastic! Your topic sentence is clear, as is your analysis–which you take the time to develop. Well done! (Lehrer identifies as a male, however.)

I was interested to see how you continued to develop your TREAC into a Barclay. Consider digging into the quotes a little more, especially as you analyze the ways that different quotes connect.
